The Shortland Campus

Our Shortland College

The Shortland campus, a significant part of the College’s history, was generously donated by the Uniting Church and continues to house the original church building, which stands as a reminder of the campus’s rich heritage. This unique blend of history and modern education provides students with a space that fosters both academic and personal growth. In addition to the historic church, the campus, established in 2010, offers a variety of facilities designed to support diverse learning needs. The science lab encourages curiosity and experimentation, while the specialised classrooms cater to different Key Learning Areas (KLAs), ensuring that students receive a well-rounded education.

Our Program

At Shortland, we proudly offer a tailored Stage 5 & 6 Curriculum for students in Years 11 and 12, designed to meet their unique learning needs. Our curriculum includes the mandatory subjects of Mathematics, English, Science, PDHPE, and HSIE (History and Geography), providing a well-rounded foundation for each student. As a special education setting, we go beyond traditional teaching methods, adjusting and individualising the curriculum to support every student at their own pace. Our approach reflects one of the key teaching standards: “know your student and how they learn,” ensuring that all students receive a personalised and effective educational experience.

A day at our Shortland College

Each day at Shortland Campus begins with a warm welcome and a wellbeing check-in, where students have the opportunity to connect with their caseworkers for support. Breakfast is provided to ensure that everyone starts the day off right. In our small, supportive classes, teachers and learning support teams deliver personalised lessons tailored to each student’s needs in a nurturing, focused environment. During breaks, students can enjoy supervised activities that encourage social interaction and relaxation, helping to create a fun, safe, and engaging school community where everyone feels valued and supported.

At Shortland Campus, our dedicated team of Teachers, Caseworkers, Wellbeing staff and Campus Leadership work collaboratively to support each student’s unique journey. Teachers develop tailored learning plans to meet individual needs, while caseworkers offer personalised guidance to help students navigate their educational experience. Our wellbeing staff prioritise the emotional and mental health of students, ensuring they are supported holistically.
