JIM KNOWLES – Chairman
Jim is a Risk Management professional with a career spanning over 45 years in the mining industry as an operator, supervisor, manager and consultant at site, regional and international levels.
In 1997 he started his own company specialising in Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) and Risk Management (RM), providing critical services to a broad range of industries, including mining, power generation and distribution, marine services, building construction, aviation and other heavy industries.
Jim has conducted many successful Risk Assessments and Systems Safety Accident Investigations along with Hazard Awareness training programs and safety audits in both the coal and metalliferous mining and extractive industries in Australia, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Brazil and Chile. More recently, he has facilitated the re-entry risk assessments for Solid Energy’s Pike River Mine in New Zealand.
He is committed to addressing the OHS and RM ‘disconnect’ in large organisations, with a focus on promoting health and safety awareness and behaviours at all levels of an organisation with a ‘Zero Harm’ objective.
In addition to his qualifications and memberships to numerous industry organisations, Jim is also a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. He has been a member of the Board of Directors for the Margaret Jurd College for almost three years and is currently serving as the Board Chairman.
