STUDENT SUPPORT PROGRAM

Corporate Partnerships

Corporate Partnerships

Our Corporate Sponsorships are always available to organisations who want to support at-risk members of the community. Businesses can donate to one of our targeted programs or reach out to the College if they would like to engage in a more specific cause to donate to. Our Corporate Partnerships offerings are far more in-depth and are about ensuring the successful delivery of both the organisation's strategic plan as well as that of the College. A synergy in values and community focus will be looked at with the ultimate goal of a long-term, reciprocal partnership being developed. The College is a Not-For-Profit and has both DGR & PBI status.

Family Pantry

Family Pantry

This initiative was started because we found that some of our young people were saving the lunch we provided to them so they could take it home for others in the family. It is a place where a young person can access some simple ingredients, hygiene supplies and even a blanket or two should they need it. We hope to spread this initiative to other schools as our donations increase.

Christmas Hampers

Christmas Hampers

Our students look forward to Christmas and there is a lot of research to suggest that family traditions, like birthdays and Christmas, operate as a huge defence against a young person developing trauma responses. As we know though, Christmas is also a time when family finances are stretched which can lead to tension at home during the festive season. The College attempts to provide a Christmas hamper to families who need it. This can include things like a leg of ham, some dips and spreads and a few festive treats that are sometimes exactly what is needed. It also makes sure that the sense of excitement for the holidays is long-lasting, as is the connection to the College Community. Each hamper, costing around $90, is sourced locally. Fund one… fund more – but feel free to donate a Christmas gift to someone who needs it.

Suit Up

Suit Up

Each year our students engage in professional training to assist them with job-ready skills such as how to sit for an interview. Partnering with local hairdressers and job-ready specialists the students lack only one thing – job-ready clothes. We have received generous donations from several organisations and individual professionals. We hope to run this program long-term, and a donation of business-ready clothes is always appreciated. Any clothes that aren’t utilised during the Suit Up program are then available to students for our end-of-year celebration night. Any money directly donated to this program will go toward our College uniform fund that helps provide our students uniforms free of charge.

Student Fee Waiver

Student Fee Waiver

At MJC we charge a very small amount of fees. There is an unspoken motto within the College in which we ensure that financial hardship should not endanger the educational experiences of young people and should not be a barrier to them engaging in the education program. As a result, MJC will often waive a family’s school fees if it is demonstrated that the family may be struggling to pay. The Fee Waiver initiative is the College’s way of making sure that, if times get tough for our families, then the community can assist by allowing the College to waive fees whilst also maintaining the high standard of service delivery that we have become known for.

Pathways Fund

Pathways Fund

The College, with the help of Lane Cove Uniting Church, has created a trust fund for students who have graduated from the College and would like assistance to further their studies or secure employment after they leave school. The Pathways fund is administered by a committee and helps with anything from Driving Lessons to study books or workplace tools and equipment. We would like for this trust fund to grow to provide even more opportunities to young people in the community who have moved on from the College but would like a hand in achieving their goals.

Food Program

Food Program

Each student who attends the College receives breakfast, recess, and lunch free of charge. It is understood that a hungry student is unable to engage in learning as their basic needs have not been met. The underlying cost for the program is $15 per day per student. Whilst this is of benefit to all those attending MJC it would be preferred if the money could be used to purchase classroom resources. As a result, any donation to the Student Food Program will mean that money previously put aside for student food will be able to be re-invested in classroom resources. You can choose to fund a student for a day or a week or a number of students for any given amount of time.

Driver Training

Driver Training

The College started a driver training school when we realised that although we had assisted students in gaining a variety of qualifications in preparation for graduating a lot of the time, they were held back by not having a licence. Learning to drive can be a stressful event and, when already dealing with a clinical diagnosis of anxiety etc this can prove to be a major barrier to a young person's future potential. Our driver trainer is a trained caseworker who is able to work with the young person to ensure their anxiety does not get the better of them. Our drivers are all fully qualified and able to engage in the NSW learner driver log-book scheme.
