Stories of belonging
"I always hated school and thought I’d never make it past Year 10. With MJC’s support, I graduated Year 12 in 2024. This school truly saved my life."
SiennaMJC Graduate
"MJC isn’t just a school, it’s a community. They never gave up on Oliver or our family, and when Shelby joined, she went from hating school to saying, ‘I love it there.’ MJC has changed both my children’s futures and our lives."
JadeMJC Community
"Mainstream education never suited my young people. I didn’t think they would be able to continue their schooling, but MJC gave them an environment where they can complete their education, build resilience, and gain life skills."
Parent/CarerMJC Community
"When I came to MJC in Year 9, I was struggling with anxiety and on the verge of expulsion. With the support of teachers and caseworkers, I turned things around and graduated in 2023. MJC felt like home and changed my life."
LilliahnaMJC Graduate
"Before MJC, my son was just surviving. At MJC, he began thriving, forming friendships, gaining skills, and seeing his potential for the first time."
BrendanMJC Community
"I was severely bullied at my previous school and had even attempted self-harm. At MJC I found my forever best friend and a place where being me is okay. I wouldn’t be where I am today without their support."

Our Story
A Legacy of Impact
MJC was founded by Margaret Jurd, a visionary dedicated to helping disadvantaged youth through education and care. Beginning in a bus in the 1980’s and later moving to a pub in Carrington, the college continues to provide transformative learning experiences built on strong values and an unwavering commitment to student success.
Our Leadership
Strategic Growth, Lasting Change
Our Board provides the foundation for educational excellence, fostering personal growth, wellbeing, and long-term impact. Learn more about our governance and leadership at MJC.

Not all students thrive in traditional schools. That’s why MJC exists – to reconnect young people with education.
As a ministry of the Uniting Church of Australia (UCA) we provide a holistic, supportive environment that fosters personal growth and future pathways. We offer specialised support for students in Years 9-12 (Shortland) and Years 9-10 (Tuncurry), small class sizes for personalised learning, a trauma-informed, wellbeing-focused approach, and pathways beyond school for lasting success.
